Parboiled rice, sometimes called parbuckling rice, is rice that has been partially cooked in its husk. Although the cooking time varies depending on the brand of rice, generally speaking, parboiled rice cooks fast. The three simple steps of parboiling are steaming, draining, and then drying. All these steps help make the rice absorb more liquid, changing its physical, chemical, and even spiritual properties. Thus, while fully preparing this type of rice the chances of food poisoning are minimal.

To make parboiled rice mac and cheese rice, a person needs to have at least two cups of water to one part rice. Most often people add extra ingredients after steaming. If you want the results to be as good as possible you should use freshly washed rice. Use fine-grained white rice if your rice is not fresh, otherwise use brown basmati or even spinach. Salt is optional; though you can buy special shakers made especially for preparing parboiled rice.

Steaming is the main method recommended for cooking parboiled rice. You can prepare it either using a microwave or an oven. Microwaves take about fifteen minutes while an oven will only take about twenty minutes. You can adjust the cooking time according to the amount of moisture in the ingredients.

Fried rice has a lot of nutrients such as iron, zinc, protein, carbohydrates, and so forth. All these nutrients are lost during the cooking process. Thus, the best way to ensure complete nutrients are retained during the parboiling process is to soak them for at least fifteen minutes. It helps in retaining the nutritional value. The nutrients retain their nutritional value because of the high water content present in them.

Rice cookers also come with different settings for temperature, duration of cooking, and so forth. Depending on the usage, you can adjust it accordingly. For instance, if cooking for two, you can set the timer to a minimum and maximum levels. It means that you can select the settings depending on the texture that you prefer - like moist, al dente texture or dry. The settings for other nutrients also work in the same manner - like dark brown color for proteins, white color for carbohydrates, and so forth.
